Everything You Need to Specify the Perfect Valance
Valances bring softness and personality to the top of any window. From gathered fabric and tailored pleats to scalloped swags and mock Romans, each style carries its own character. Explore the options below to find the right look for your next project.

The Cleveland Valance
The Cleveland is a refined and instantly recognizable style, beginning with a straight fabric panel finished with a series of graceful arches cut along the bottom edge. The number and spacing of arches are fully customizable to suit your window width and design intent. Between each arch, the fabric column is looped, adding subtle dimension and movement. The valance is completed with a decorative rod spanning the full width - available in metal or wood and finished with your choice of decorative finials. A perennial favorite in senior living and luxury hospitality environments alike.

The Gathered Valance
Soft, effortless, and timelessly elegant, the gathered valance takes its cues from the classic gathered bed skirt. Fabric is cinched and gathered at the top, falling loosely with a gentle billow along the bottom edge for a look that feels relaxed yet polished. A rod pocket is sewn at a specified distance from the top, housing a stiff rod that keeps the valance neatly in place while maintaining its characteristic fullness. A beautiful choice for spaces that call for warmth and a softer touch.

The Mock Roman
All the beauty of a Roman shade drawn fully up - without the mechanics. The Mock Roman is a fixed valance carefully crafted to mimic the stacked, pleated folds of a raised Roman shade. Since it's purely decorative, there are no moving parts, making it a streamlined and cost-effective way to achieve that clean, tailored look at the top of the window. As the designer, you'll specify the total drop of the valance, the number of pleats, and the spacing between them to achieve exactly the proportion and rhythm you're after.

The Scalloped Valance
Graceful and full of character, the scalloped valance shares its signature silhouette with the scalloped cornice — but with the softness of draped fabric rather than a structured frame. Each scallop swag curves gently downward with rounded corners, while the space between each swag forms a beautiful bell-shaped column, reminiscent of a full cartridge pleat. The result is a valance that feels simultaneously tailored and romantic, making it a versatile choice across traditional, transitional, and luxury hospitality interiors.

The Tailored Valance
Clean, crisp, and enduringly classic - the tailored valance is the most popular style for good reason. A straight bottom edge gives it a structured, architectural quality, while one or more inverted box pleats punctuate the front face with sharp, precise detail. The number and placement of pleats can be fully customized across the width of the valance, making it an incredibly versatile choice that works equally well in contemporary, transitional, and traditional settings.
A Few Things Worth Knowing
Every valance we produce is built on a ¾" plywood top board, with the interior lined in a coated blackout fabric as standard, unless otherwise specified or discussed with your project manager.
When it comes to specifications, width and drop are both required for every order. Width can be provided as a variable measurement (for example, window width plus 12") or as a fixed constant. That said, you never have to figure this out alone. Our team is here to handle the details from start to finish, including field measurements. As part of our white glove service, your dedicated Jo-Vin project manager can work directly with you and your team on-site to ensure every dimension is captured accurately before a single yard of fabric is cut. Because when the measurements are right, everything else falls into place.
